A Kayak is a small fiberglass boat usually seating 1-2 people and can be moved through the double-sided paddles operated by the one sitting in it. Lightweight and fun, these small watercraft are actually a delight to paddle around in the backwaters. Each trip lasts for 2 hours approximately and is preceded by a briefing and practice session after which you venture out on the river typically from 8 AM to 4 PM, in smaller groups (max 4 people) under the supervision and the watchful eye of the lead. The total distance typically covered in a Kayaking trip would be 4-5 Kms through the wonderful Chapora mangroves
Each person in a Kayak is given a lifejacket which helps keep them afloat in case of getting into the water. The Kayaks are also easy to set right in the case of tipping over and take no time to get back into action. This is slowly becoming one of the most popular activities in Goa with instructors and observers always keeping a watchful eye on the Kayakers.
Typically the Kayaking trip starts 2 hours before high tide. When flooded, it is easier to make one’s way deeper into the tangled mangroves. You can spot a lot of nesting birds and even some local fishermen catching crabs. The Mangroves will always have some unique sights and sounds from the waterline promising a delight like no other.
